To Thailand
February 10, 2008 | Filed Under Uncategorized
We are thrilled to announce to you: Recapture. This is very exciting to us. Read around the blog to get a full view of what we are about and our mission. We leave on February 18th. This will be the first recapture trip and we know we will learn a lot about the vision of this non-profit.
We will be going to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and to the islands where the Tsunami hit. We will be emersing ourselves in the culture as we arrive. The second week we are there we will be taking boat rides to the islands to take images of Tsunami victims. We will be with some of my cousins that have been rebuilding their homes for the last three years. They will be showing us around and introducing us to their country. It is extremely important to us to have an established relationship with the people we strive to capture. They will be our avenue of an established relationship as the people already trust them. The process will be to go by boat to the homes that have been rebuilt. We will take portraits of their families. We will then go back to Ranong or et to edit and tone the images. We will go to labs there in the city to have them printed and then laminate them to with stand the elements. Then we will go back on another day to the island and deliver the images. This could be an interesting time as we try to match the person to the portrait. We are told they are not an emotional culture and usually don’t show their gratitude. This will be a stretch for us as we would love to see them enjoy their images, but it is not guaranteed. We are sure they will be enjoying them, but may not be able to show that.
I cannot tell you how excited we are about this venture. We are in complete awe at the opportunity that we have been given. We have been given this talent and we know it is our responsibility to share it with the world. Join us in this mission and watch the blog as we keep you up to date.

Chris & Katie,
This story has touched me and as a fellow wedding photographer I know that our talents were bestowed upon us for a reason. To take your talents and to put them to cause is honorable. I wish you and Katie the best and will pray for you both. I look forward to hearing the stories and viewing the recaptured photographs that will rebuild the spirits of everyone effected by the Tsunami.
You guys are great photographers and even greater people – this trip sounds amazing and I can’t wait to see what comes of it. We will be following your journey!
May God bless both of you on this journey! I can’t wait to see some of your work from this trip.
All the best, Dan
Dear Chris & Katie,
When I read your post I thought about this saying… when I stand before God at the end of my life I would hope that I would have not a single big of talent left and could say, “I used everything you gave me”…. by erma bombeck
You are so incredibly blessed with such an amazing talent, it’s so important to give back. We’re so excited to see you doing this. Travel safe… we’ll be praying for you!

Wow, we are blown away by the wisdom and encouragement that is being given to us in these comments. Just today we’ve been talking about how hard it is for our heart and head right now. We are leaving our business and our life. Yes, only for 16 days, but it is what we know. We are trying to get all of our clients settled and taken care of before we leave.
We know that we have great things ahead of us. What a honor it is to be able to give back. Great things have been given to us, talent, love, family and friends. We hope to be able to give back even a reflection of this to those we meet.
Your encouragement is priceless and will keep us strong. Your prayers are needed daily and we thank you.
Love,
Katie
