We finally made it to our hotel room late at night on Saturday with anticipation of the wonderful opportunities on the horizon for this week. After much needed sleep, we made our way to downtown Galveston for church. We attended Galveston Bible Church for two reasons: one, was to worship with another body of believer away from my church home, All Souls Fellowship, and two, to seek out families in need of Recapture’s assistance. While driving through the streets of Galveston, we noticed that the homes did not appear to be damaged by any kind of hurricane or it seem that there was any need for help in this city. We found out later that since the city is a tourist hotspot, especially now that it is spring break, the city puts the facade that everything is just fine and nothing is/was wrong. Essentially, most of the homes have had quite a bit of flood damage from 5-8 feet of water during the storm. The picture below is an example of the water line that I found in the church that morning between two chairs.

Thanks for the people at the church for their kindness and warmth, through these troubling times. Some of them are still living in a home in need of repair from the flood waters. Their members rally around one another helping each other with renovations. Their strength is encouraging.
Later, we met up with the team from The Original Event to see how we can help them. They told us of a deserving family with 13 children who are living in FEMA trailers in their own front yard! The parents have a heart for adopting children in need, and some of the children have terminal illnesses. We are excited to have the honor to document this family tomorrow with a few other deserving families. More to come on that ahead….
