This holiday season, like many before it there are people rushing to the stores and malls trying to decide what to get their loved ones. Try something different this year and give the gift of fine art prints. These celebrated art pieces are from the Thailand collection captured while documenting the families on the islands and on the mainland that experienced what it was like to loose everything in the wake of the tsunami. The best part is that 100% of all proceeds of the sale goes right back to Recapture to continue the overwhelming work of capturing those in need in order to provide and encourage self-worth and value to those families.

There are many different sizes to choose from and many of the prints, from 5×7, 8×10 & 11×14, come custom matted to the next frame size up at no additional cost. Each one also comes with a brief story of the photograph on the back. To order your fine art print for your self or as a gift, simply go to the ‘Support Us’ tab at the top or you can go directly to the Recapture Store here.

For some of you, Good Friday was a day like any other week day. Alarm shouts for your attention and you roll out of bed with a hairdo that needs reckoning. The gather up your little ones and prep them for school or for the care takers while you journey to work. You went to work to wrap things up in preparation for the weekend. Left work, and picked up the kids from daycare or parents taking care of them for the day. Home, then set the little ones to bed. Then, to finally have some quiet moments with your spouse before bed. Lather, rinse, repeat; as the cycle goes, day in and day out.

Then something disturbing happens. Something that breaks that cycle. Last Friday, the southeast was riddled with storms that brought along with it multiple tornados that destroyed many homes and lives. Tornados were confirmed, touched down in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and other parts of the southeast. You can read more about the tornados in Tennessee here or tornados in Georgia here. Our heart, sincerely, goes out to each and everyone that was affected by the devastation and loss.

We recently received an email from a friend telling us about a story they ran across in the Tulsa World News. He mentioned:
“I thought you’d like to see this story. It’s about the tornado this week in Oklahoma. The thesis of Recapture is affirmed by one of the people whose home was destroyed.”

The area of Lone Grove was hit with a twister that destroyed 100 homes. Here is an excerpt:
” ‘Around 9 p.m., with news reports on a battery-powered radio saying the storm had moved out of the area, Hughes climbed out to find her trailer gone. “You couldn’t even tell there was ever a trailer there,” she said.’

She worried the most about family photos. “Everything else can be replaced, but they are gone forever,” she said.’ “

I think that last statement is the strongest statement. This is why we do what we do. There is grief in the aftermath of these disasters and we are there to hopefully give them other way of coping; through the power of photographs. You can read more of the story here: Tulsa World News – Lone Grove Storm
